Happenings at Sonshine Hacienda

Korneliuusen Mission Update
June 2011

Standing in front of Sonshine Hacienda I am amazed what the Lord has done in these last few months.  So much has happened to prepare us for providing a home for the abused, abandoned, neglected children in San Felipe, Mexico
.
Since The end of February we’ve had 3 teams come down, one from Saskatchewan, Canada, one from Faith Community Fellowship in Mount Vernon, WA, and one from The Urban Church in San Diego, Ca.  Each team brought their own special skills and ministry focus to Sonshine Hacienda and the surrounding area of Los Minitas, and San Felipe.   Doors have been painted, clothes, crafts, office and school supplies have been sorted and packed into bins,  bright colors have been added to walls and doors, murals painted,  landscaping completed, Palapas have gone up, and it’s truly amazing how much has happened in such a short amount of time.  Thank You Jesus for sending the workers and for the encouragement they brought to us.
We just purchased our main power pole and transformer, which is the culmination of years of negotiations with the power company.  We are hoping to get our water meter next week.  We’ve hired a local man to build our cabinets for the kitchens and bathrooms in the staff apartments.  The local Mexican Social Services group called DIF, Similar to DSHS in the States, Made an informal visit last week to look at the facility and assist us with the final preparations needed to open. They were very pleased with our progress.

What is needed now;
1.    We need to purchase supplies for our kitchen.  Our team is planning on going to a kitchen auction in San Diego in mid-June to look at supplies needed to furnish the kitchen.  We have a new range hood that just went in for our commercial stove but need many of the basic utensils and cookware still before we’re ready for children.
2.    For the dorm rooms we have been looking at purchasing bunk beds and mattresses at a local merchant.  Our goal is to start with around 6-10 and gradually increase to full capacity of 48.

The Lord has abundantly provided what is needed when it’s needed, it’s been fun to be a part of this project and watch him work.

Some huge prayer points to consider.

1.    A year’s operating funds of $100,000.00.
2.    Additional staff to help with the day to day operation
         such as cooks, dorm parents, housekeeping. Etc.
3.    Strength to make it through the summer heat!
4.    For the Lord to help strengthen our administrative team.
5.    For families back home.
6.    For salvation for our unsaved family members.

We so appreciate your prayers and support:  If you wish to donate to our work here in San Felipe please send a check with a note for Paul and Donna Korneliussen Mission support.
